As the chills of winter had begun to die, Sparrow had decided to go to the abandoned village near the forest. It had always been one of the places he had wished to visit. Perhaps he would find something of use or value that, in time, could be used to help him achieve his plans. Other than that, exacting revenge on the Darkness that dwelt there would also be a sincere pleasure. As the young tactician, with a certain eagerness in his eye, walked into the village, a certain amount of his optimism faded as he saw the charred remains of a once thriving community. People had lived and died here, slaughtered by Darkness in the stabilization of the area.
Sparrow took a moment to pay his respects to those who had lost their lives, and wished them the best for their futures. Taking another step, he stopped in front of a larger house, and scooped up a small amount of the ashes. A wind blew them away into the melting snow, as more and more dry parts of the land began to reveal themselves. However, the earth was not the only thing that was making itself known....
Hearing a low growl, the strategist turned to see a few Troublemakers, eager to attack the boy. Taking a small bow with a confident and calm smile, he spoke, "Greetings! How are you all on this fine day? I'm sure the increasing amounts of sunlight must be simply enraging for you...."
A few of the beasts bared their fangs, detecting the condescension in the human's voice. Pulling out two pocket knives, Sparrow laid them on the ground and raised his hand in the direction of the monsters. With another smile, he extended his threads and flung them towards one of the beasts. Each thread took hold in the monster's flesh, releasing screams of shock into the air. The Darkness had lost control of its body - it was now a tool of the Grandmaster's desires. With a quick flick of the wrist and three fingers, the monster swung with its claws at its former allies. They began to fight among one another, with Sparrow quietly laughing in amusement.
With a clench of his fist and a swift ripping motion, the threads dug into the Darkness he wielded. Unholy screams of agony permeated the village ruins, as the monster began to be squeezed and constricted by the threads. The grip grew ever tighter, the sharp psychic threads cutting into the mysterious flesh of the beast. Finally, the threads cut through the entire monster, ripping it to shreds. Sparrow had minced the Darkness into nothing more than shadowy ashes, quickly to be scattered by the wind. Retracting his threads, he extended them onto his knives and lifted them off of the ground, extending their blades. In sheer fury, the remaining three Darkness, still wounded from their scuffle, charged towards the puppet master with reckless abandon.
Calmly smiling, he leaped over them, holding his arm closer to the ground. The blades ran along the earth as they flew to their master, cutting against the Darkness as they passed. Maneuvering his body as he glided over the enemies, he twirled again and slammed his weapons into the beasts. More cries of pain rang out as Sparrow landed softly onto the ground. "You know, I usually detest fighting," Sparrow began, "all of that potential wasted, the ability to find new allies and comrades...but I am not required to worry about that with you.... My duty is to destroy you and protect humanity, and I will take no greater pleasure than to eliminate your kind from the face of the earth forever."
With another calm smile, he ripped his knives out of the monsters and flung them at the Darkness again. Soon, all that could be seen around the monster was a flurry of blades and screams. In less than five minutes, the monsters' bodies lay motionless on the ground, and eventually dissolved into black dust. Retrieving his knives and releasing the threads, Sparrow took a breath and quickly calmed himself. As enjoyable as it was to administer justice, it was important for him to maintain a proper amount of control on his emotions. He had been continually striving to improve his calmness, as when he first began it was blind rage and destruction. Now, the young man had become perfectly calm in the face of Darkness. Gone were the rage and fear of facing the kind that ended his entire family - all that was left for Sparrow was sheer amusement in his game. He would continue to grow stronger and fight the Darkness, that the young man would never lose another person that he cared about ever again....
