1. Respect.
The key to becoming a well-respected member here is respect. Guests, members, and staff all deserve this to the best degree. For members this means not being rude towards kindly suggestions, respecting if a thread is private, and word counts they may place on their own thread. This rule also means that members can not give nasty retorts, talk back, or complain about staff decisions.
2. Bullying & Flaming.
Bullying, flaming, racism, sexism, etc, is not acceptable at all. If this occurs and staff have yet to find it, it should be reported. Personal Messages that disregard this rule can certainly be reported and should be immediately. Those who break this rule will receive severe punishment for their insolence. We also ask to refrain from speaking about politics for it can disturb the peace.
3. PG-13 Rating.
Any sort of inappropriate language or imagery will not be tolerated. This includes pornography and massive amounts of gore that may occur in threads or images. This also means no drug, sex and alcoholic themes that go above the PG-13 rating in role-playing, out of role-playing this will not be tolerated.
4. Spamming.
Spamming will not be allowed here. If you seem to be a consistent spammer, you may get banned from personal messaging and the chatbox. Posts that are below 3 words, have no relation to the thread's topic will count as spam or posting twice in a row.
5. Private Information.
Sharing private information on Chasing Darkness will not be tolerated. This is all about protecting your identity, so sharing your location, full name, and anything else in relation to these is a big no.
6. Impersonating.
No one is allowed to impersonate their fellow members. This is something that can result in banning due to the fact it is rude and can get innocent people into trouble they don't deserve.
7. Power-Playing & God-Moding
Like every role-playing forum, power-playing and god-modding are forbidden. Power-playing is when you control another person's character to do things the role-player did not intend. Power-playing can be allowed in fighting if you have permission from the other person, but please state it in post. As for God-modding, it is completely forbidden. God-modding is when you do godly things, such as read-mind without that power or taking absolutely no damage in a fight.
8. Word Count.
There is no official word count on the site, but members may set word counts on their threads. This is mostly so members who feel they would like longer posts to reply to can get as they please.
9. Role-Players.
All role-player will be welcomed with open arms. We asked that more advanced role-players help those who are less advanced, whether it be role-playing with them or perhaps sharing knowledge that is asked for.
10. Liquid Time.
Liquid time is allowed. This means you are free to be in multiple threads at once and say they are different dates. We just ask you don't go overboard with threads.
11. Posting.
Please don't pester people to post. Chances are if they haven't they have a good reason, and don't need you yelling at them in chat or giving them a million personal messages. However, if it has been about two weeks, it is fine to give them a little heads up.
12. Perfection.
Gary-Stu and Mary-Sue characters are not allowed. Every character made must have some set of flaws. Flaws are the necessary ingredient to the mixture that is personality, but this doesn't mean your character has to be all flaw. We just ask that you try to keep it balanced between positive and negative traits.
13. Names.
When making a character we ask that you don't go crazy with their name. This doesn't mean you have to name your character Tom and Mary. We just ask you make sure not to go crazy. Also, no using famous people and character names from TV shows, music, etc. We want to see creativity, not someone using a famous name.
14. History.
On a majority of role-playing forums it is easy to find a crazy history involving kidnapping, death, abuse and even parental rejection. This has become such an occurrence that this must be said, be creative or perhaps even simple. Not everyone in the world has had to deal with these dramas and having a character with a plain history isn't so bad.
15. Permissions.
If you have plans to have a character die, get pregnant or be involved in a large plot you must ask for permission. Any plots that may alter the entire site will be rejected, so keep that in mind.
16. Genders.
Please be gender considerate with making a character. If you notice there is a lack of the male gender, maybe make a male character and same vise-versa.
17. Signature Size.
The limited pixel size for a signature image is 500 x 300 pixels. Anything larger will be removed by the staff and you will be told to find a smaller one or simply make the image smaller. No images should be hosted by Imgur for their Terms of Service prohibits such use. This includes in biographies, avatars, etc.
18. Copyrights.
You may not use images that you're not allowed to use and you certainly can't take credit for works that aren't yours. If someone finds that you've been using their image without permission they may personally message an admin or post in the support board.
19. Advertising.
You can only advertise in the advertising board, this means no putting advertisements in the chat-box. If you do this frequently, you will be banned from the chat-box.
20. Guests.
Guests are welcomed to post in the advertising and the support boards. If they feel the need to talk with a staff member before joining they may do so in the chat-box or they can make a thread in the support board.
21. Chat-Box.
Spamming in the chat-box will result in a banning from it. We also ask that the chat-box is only used for quick chatting, not for talking about only one thing. Members who seek comfort for a dramatic incident shouldn't post it in the chat-box. Please, if you need comfort for a dramatic incident post in the Members' Lounge so it's private and people who want to get involved can. Please refrain from offensive discussion and political topics within the chat-box, it can make people uncomfortable. There is also an In-Character (IC) Chat located in the Members' Lounge for any characters you may create. These characters can still be a work in progress or even a character that had yet to be accepted. Please be considerate of your other members and remember this chat doesn't count as an actual interactions/threads/posts. If you want your characters to meet someone in the similar way they did inside the chat, PM the member that owns that character and create a thread to remake the situation.
22. Claims.
These are a responsibility for members. There are face claims, which you can use a character from an anime or manga for your characters look. Face claims are not mandatory, but are existent solely for the sake of those who wish to use one. However don't base your entire character off this one, be original. All claims that apply to you and your character must be filled out.
22. ProBoards Terms of Service.
The ProBoards Terms of Service must be follow. This organization was willing to host this site for free and so all members must follow their Terms of Service.
23. Accounts.
For each character you make, they must have their own account. As you add onto your list of character, try not to go over-board since we would like to see most, if not all your accounts active.
24. Aging.
Every year is one year in the role-play. The dates will go accordingly to the current year, month and season in time.
25. Powers & Abilities.
Once you start making a character you have a limit of three powers. These powers consist of one large power and two smaller powers at max. You can not be invincible, your powers must be sensible. You may not create animals that have powers and work with your character, familiars are somewhat excluded for they must be summoned. Familiars must have limited abilities and be connected to the character in some way. Ex. They drain their masters energy, if the familiar takes damage the master feels it, etc. These are not required ones, just suggestions for those who may make a character with a familiar.
26. Cussing.
Cussing, swearing, cursing or whatever you may refer to it as is allowed to some degree. Certain swears will already be censored, but since most characters will probably be older, will not be completely banned. Just please don't swear massively and try to keep the swears PG-13.~your friendly admins
