Paperwork, the OTHER side of Chasers (Scarlet)

Candy sighed as she filled out the forms about her last mission. How many Darkness? 15. How many were Razors?3. How many Brutes? 0. How many trouble makers? 12. It was tedious because the same basic info was needed on five different forms...

She looked at the stack of paper she had finished, it as about an inch tall. then she looked at what she still had to do...and dropped her head to the desk.

"Why do they have to make this so complicated? I need a spa day. Its been three weeks of non stop missions. I've fought over a hundred darkness in the last four days alone." she started filling out the forms again.

"Stupid, moronic, selfish head chasers, always adding more paperwork instead of just letting us do our jobs. Other countries have laws about working someone seven days a week without breaks..."

Scarlet shuffles through her paperwork, looking over her mess of forms that she only half read before signing.  From what she gathered from the paperwork she did bother reading was the academy was not liable for student injuries and/or death.  Basic enough but the administration somehow finding a way to word it in so many ways that it would require seven different forms to sign.  Now that she was here though... she had no idea where to turn them in as there was distinct lack of people present.  

Scarlet shuffled a bit around the entryway, looking about in a cautious deer-like manner.  While temping to just leave them on the nearest desk, she didn't feel comfortable leaving them there.  The last thing she needed was to get expelled or something because she misplaced forms.  Fortunately she wasn't entirely alone, judging from the audible complaints from lady sitting at desk going through some arduous paperwork that would put her own small pile of papers to shame.  While she does look like she has own workload to do... she felt confident that she was friendly enough to ask for assistance.  Plus she looked like she could use some company.  With that, Scarlet puts on her best smile and strolls over to blonde girl, hugging her own paperwork across her chest as she approach.  

"Hello miss, pardon my intrusion.  I can see that you have... paperwork of your own you need look over but... can you direct me to where I might turn in this legal documents?  Its important that it gets turn in to its proper place.  Can I leave these with you to take to whomever is in charge of these forms?  Or at least point me to the location that I should leave them in?" Scarlet politely asks the blond girl as she brings the forms from her chest and down to her eye level for her to look at to see what forms they were.

Candy glanced up, a small smile on her lips. "No worries, sweetheart. When you get to be a chaser, don't be like me and let it build it up. Do your mission reports right after the mission if possible..."

She held her hand out for the girls papers, She'd turn them in, but only after she checked to make sure they were properly done. Once she had them she spotted a mistake right away. "These are the forms for married females. Are you married?"

She held up two sheets. It was not obvious that they were for married women, unless you read them very carefully. In fact it was only mentioned once on both forms, half way through the third paragraph on page one and almost at th end of the foruth on the second.

She looked at the other forms and nodded. "Besides that, everything is good."

Scarlet returns with smile. "Alright... I'll be sure to remember that."

Scarlet's face quickly turns pale as she stares wide-eyed at the paperwork Candy was holding in her hands.

"Whhaa! M-m-married? Ohhh nooo no no no... I'm not married. I-I.m... still much a single woman... ha ha haa... ha... heh..." stammers Scarlet as she forces a smile to try to hide her incompetence, cursing herself for not taking the time to actually the paperwork as probably would have been obvious if she actually took the time to read the forms.

Scarlet watch Candy anxiously as she flips through the other forms but was visibly relieved there where no more outstanding errors on her part.

"Oh that is pleasant to hear... errr... can take back that one form for married individuals and make a a couple of corrections or am I going to have to grab another form to work on?" inquires Scarlet as she glances around the office space before settling her green eyes back to Candy.

Candy glanced at her and smiled a little. "The forms should not have been given to you anyway. You are fine. If you give me a minute, I just have to sign two more forms and I can take a break, which will be spent filing said forms..."

She muttered under her breath as she went back to her own forms. "They never mentioned this in the academy. For every five minutes of battle, its two hours of paper work. AND I'm not allowed to grow extra arms to get it done..."

She finished and stood, gathering up the various papers. "Okay, lets show you where to file your paper work. Follow me, sweetheart."

The whole sweetheart thing was habit from dealing with students, she was only 19, and this girl looked to be close to that, but Candy was one of those people who treated everyone pretty much the same. She lead the girl out the door, down the hall and through a door marked with the words "Processing" and "Report Station".

"This is it, its all automated, you just gotta file the paperwork in the right slot. Your stuff goes into that slot where it says 'Student Chaser Forms'. My stuff, and anything you fill out in regards to a mission, is filed here, in 'Mission Reports'. If you get hurt it goes under 'Injury Claims'. Try not to die, because the paperwork your sponsor has to fill out...wel lets just say you could save an entire rainforest by not getting yourself killed."

"Oh, okey." smiles Scarlet as she bobs her head "Oh sure thing! I'll be right here waiting!"

Scarlet puts on smile as Candy gets up from her seat. The moment Candy looks away from her, muttering something about paperwork, Scarlet's smile twists into a slight frown as she felt a little guilty that this poor girl was spending her own precious break helping her and they don't even know her name. Scarlet considers the various ways that she could reward Candy for her help, maybe snack of sorts to help her get through the rest of her long day. Also, she mentally reminds herself to properly introduce each other since they haven't given each other their names, that way she doesn't have to refer to her as ma'am and her having to go by sweetheart... which was a little weird now that she thinks about it as its something that she would expect from someone's grandmother than another female of about her age.

"Okay, lets show you where to file your paper work. Follow me, sweetheart." speaks Candy as she stands up.

Scarlet blinks, as if coming out of daze. She was so focused on doing something for Candy that she near forgot that she was sitting right in front of her. And there she goes calling her sweetheart again! Surely she called everyone sweetheart right? Oh best not overthink it.

"Oh! Yeah sure... lead on!" says Scarlet as she clutches onto her paperwork and follows Candy closely as she examines her unfamiliar surroundings.

The two eventually come to stop to door labeled "Processing" and "Report Station". Scarlet listens attentively to Candy as she explains where to drop off her forms, along with the mission forms in the future.

"Student Chaser Forms..." repeats Scarlet as she looks at the slot, then back to Candy as she gives her a simple smile and a thumbs up with her free hand

"Got it!" she says with cheer as she slips the forms into the proper slot.

"Haha... yeah sure! I'll do my best not so so no worries~ Have to keep in mind of trees." laughs Scarlet before looking back to Candy warmly before her eyes suddenly widen as she remembers something.

"Oh! One moment." states Scarlet as she peruses through her hand back before producing what looks like a clear plastic snack bag filled with an assortment of nuts.

"Here! Sorry for bothering you and having to spend your break on a freshman such as myself. Sounds like you are going to be here all day so... I think you could use the energy more than me." says Scarlet as she holds out the bag to Candy

"These little guys are packed with all sorts of nutrients and calories that will help you. There are things like almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios, and cashews in here so... I'm certain there is a nut that you can... go nuts for!" sings Scarlet, forcing smile as she internally screams at herself for saying something so cheesy. Seriously... a nut that you can go nuts for? What were you thinking!

"Heh... oh... also I don't think properly introduced ourselves. My name is Scarlet, Scarlet Zyre." says Scarlet as she still maintains her smile while still holding out a bag of assorted nuts.

Candy smiled. This kid was energetic! "No problem. Helping out is good to do. If you cant help your fellow chasers, you are doomed to a bad time. And I'm Candy, Candy Green. Sorry about the Sweetheart thing, its a habit I picked up from my mom. Believe it or not I'm pretty sure we are close to the same age. But I've been a chaser since I was 17."

Candy nodded towards the door. "And don't worry about the nuts. I've got more snacks in my desk than most people know what to do with. My Ability is Shape Shifting, and it consumes Calories. So hold on to those nuts, in case we end up working together and I run out of supplies."

She paused. "Speaking of food...Have you eaten lunch yet? Pretty sure the Canteen is having BBQ today."

The Canteen being the cafeteria of sorts that served the Active Chasers. It had some of the best food in the city, because really, if you are going to ask someone to risk their life to keep you safe, you should at least feed them good food.

Scarlet lowers her baggy full of nuts, thinking about how curious Candy Green was named after a sweet treat? At least Candy confirmed what she already assumed that the whole "sweetheart" thing just a habit she had with everyone that she wasn't flirting with her discretely. No that she had problems being hit on by a girl but... she would personally rather get to know people before they hit on her or anything like that.

"Oh?! Its fine, being called sweetheart is fine with me. And you have here since since 17? And your a full fledged Chaser? Well, look about the same age but I think you might be bit older than me. I am currently 18 years old so... I'm guessing your about 20." replies Scarlet, looking slightly up at the ceiling as she taps her chin with her right index finger. Scarlet then looks back Candy as she explains how she already has snacks and her own chaser ability.

"Oh... hee... well since you have your own snacks... I'll just put my nuts away now. Shape Shifting you say? Thats neat! I can err... teleport anywhere within about 300 meters. Makes me woozy each time I do it though. I can also make these... multiple really long crystalline shards that I can control with just a thought." comments Scarlet as she puts away the bag of nuts she was holding up earlier.

While she also has the ability to share the pain and emotions of anyone she connects with her Heart Link ability, she neglects to Candy as she personally didn't really see it as a useful power. When Candy mentioned having lunch at a place called the Canteen, Scarlet blinks as it takes her a moment to process the information.

"The Canteen... oh! Well... no I haven't eaten lunch. Err... they have other food aside pork and beef right? Like a salad maybe? Or grilled chicken?" asks a concerned Scarlet, who is a bit worried that they might be serving food to unhealthy for her taste. Of course if worst comes to worst she still had those bags of nuts, along with the prepared meal she had made from home that is currently in a tubberware container in her hand bag.

Candy laughed. "I'm almost 20 yeah. Oh as for my name, a lot of people wonder about it. My mom named when she was high on labor pain meds. So my name is actually Candy Apple Green." She grinned. "Really throws people for a loop."

Candy paused. "You're the girl then? I'd heard something about that. The powers that stand out tend to become rumor here in the HQ. There's a kid in the Academy, if you listen to the rumors, that can make pocket dimensions where he is a god. But that's rumor. Likely his power is real, but I doubt its as strong as what the rumors are saying. Now when it comes to actual gods. You know about Lux and Oscuro. Then you have the Demi-gods. I know one of them, Zephyr, but he's....interesting. Won't fight the Darkness unless he absolutely has to. But has a nasty tendency to interfere with our fighting. Likes to lock the Darkness and the Chasers in what he calls 'The Dream World', in separate areas, until we 'cool off'. Gets annoying, really it does. But sometimes its nice."

Candy shook her head. "They don't serve unhealthy food to Chasers. The food is the very best. Yes its BBQ, but its made with healthy meats, veggies, and even the sauce is specially made to be healthy. But yes they have salads, chicken, and just about anything else you could ask for, all you have to do is ask for it. Several of the cooks and Chefs in the Canteen have support type powers, they can cook food almost instantly or spice it perfectly every time."

Scarlet does her best to hold back a chuckle as she places her right hand over her mouth as she didn't want to appear rude. Once the urge to laugh subsides, she lowers her hand and reveals a smirk on the verge of becoming laughter.

"Oh my... your mother has an interesting way of naming her children~ My own mother was going to name me something like Rececca but changed her mind when she saw my faint strands of red hair and decided to name me Scarlet the moment she saw it." recounted Scarlet, her soft smile becoming a grimance and appeared distracted with the thought of her own mother momentarly before looking back to Candy with a blank expression.

"Oh? I am the girl? Heh... I guess I should be flattered that people know of me already. Honestly I expected most people to recognize me as Grayson's older sister... but I guess we don't look that much alike. Didn't think people would be talking about me so soon to he honest." admits Scarlet as her cheeks become a rosy red.

"Anyway... I think everyone is familiar with the gods Lux and Oscuro but... I can't say the same of the demi-gods you speak of. I guess I better watch out for Zephyr character you speak of. I know you say he is harmless but... I can't approve of anyone forcing anyone to the fight the darkness regardless if they are a Chaser or not. That just seems... cruel pitting people in a sort of gladiatorial combat against some very dangerous monsters." comments Scarlet, frowning somewhat as she didn't Zephyr had the best of intentions.

"I dunno... its real easy for anyone to claim their food healthy. I mean, thing you would assume to healthy like protein bars often contain more sugars than most candy bars so you have make sure to really read what the nutrition facts on side read. Ughh... and don't get me started on malicious marketing and research that convince the public that somehow high fructose corn syrup is a healthier alternative to honey or that hamburger is now "healthy" because it contains 90% real meat and I am left thinking what is the other 10%? Why is that- oh dear I am rambling again! Sorry its just... you can't simply take someone word that something is good for you just because of some claim or its what they have on the label." Scarlet then looks away from Candy, looking a bit sheepish. She can't help herself but feeling passionate for her healthy food lifestyle.

"Errr... I think the chicken and the salad will be fine..." states Scarlet as looks back to Candy.

Candy chuckled a bit. "Sorry I wasn't clear. Zephyr doesn't force to fight. He hates fighting with a passion. He locks us in different areas from the Darkness to KEEP us from fighting. It's cute in a way, and really if I went for guys old enough to be my great great great great great grandfather, well I'd try my best anyway!"

She laughed. "Zephyr is a real oddity, even for an immortal being of nearly infinite power. He was raised by a human, apparently, and he hates War. But he isn't a pacifist. He is a really skilled fighter, terrifying really. But if you ever run into him, don't fall for his charms, he's a ridiculous flirt, even though his style is about a hundred years out of date."

She nodded at the passionate ramble about healthy food. "I get where you come from, but believe me, people come from around the world to eat Chaser Quality food, because you can eat as much as you want, and as long as you exercise normally, you wont gain weight. We have yet to have a Chaser die from something food related. Well except for Travis, but that as his own stupid fault. Who on EARTH tries to fit a whole apple in their mouth?"

Scarlet listens to Candy explain to her about Zephyr as she had apparently misunderstood... like really misunderstood him as he was was not the megalomaniac forcing confrontations between man and monster as she originally thought of him as. In fact just the opposite as he uses his powers to help prevent fighting by separating them, something that she would commend him for as they both seem to share an aversion to violence.

"Oh! I completely misinterpreted him then. His dedication to non-violence is actually quite admirable... I guess we would get along well then. But I will be sure to watch out for that charisma of his~" speaks Scarlet, chuckling at the end.

"I mean... I like to think that my heart is not so easily won over but... knowing myself I can sucker for sweet honeyed words so... heh." gloats Scarlet, confident at first but... sounding more uncertain of herself by the end of her sentence.

Scarlet then turns to look at Candy, please to see that she took her rant quite well as most people would have roll their eyes or back away slowly as they mention an excuse before leaving.

"Hee... thanks for understanding. Most people think I nutcase when it comes to food but... I just want to make sure that myself and other are taking care of our bodies is all. Also... a whole apple? I like apples but I wouldn't exactly kill myself. Ohhh... so... he is okey right? He... didn't really die chocking on an apple... right?" asks Scarlet, sounding a bit concerned for this Travis as she though that Candy was exaggerating that he almost die choking while eating a whole apple but... the longer she thought about the concerned she grew that the poor by actually died.

Candy shook her head. "He did die, but not for long, his power was Regeneration, so once we got the apple out of his throat he was fine."

Candy nodded in the direction of the Canteen. "As for Zephyr, don't worry too much, he's mostly harmless. Besides, even though he looks likes he mid twenties, hes a lot older, and he usually doesn't notice you unless something really stands out to him. Like the time I turned into a bear and threw him through a brick wall. Followed me like alove sick puppy for weeks."
