'I forgot my iPod!' Jude stated, thrusting his lunch tray at his sister.

"Jude, it's fine." Mercedes promised, surprise casting over her features. She took the tray, balancing it precariously in one hand, her own tray in the other.

'I'll be right back,' And off he went. Her over-excited, purple-haired twin wasn't the most predictable person she knew. Mercedes exhaled deeply, balancing the trays as she moved through the cafeteria to an empty table. She even set them down without incident, a feat in itself. Her expression relaxed, a grin crept in, as the sixteen-year-old scooped up a cupcake and turned to watch for Jude to return.

That was when it went wrong. Whether the student was coming to help her, or just walking by, or none of the above, the fact remained that they appeared behind her. Mercedes jumped at the sudden proximity, her hands raising in defense, effectively smushing her cupcake into the front of the poor bystander's t-shirt.

"Oh, no. I'm so sorry!" Mercedes purple eyes widened, filled with sympathy as she stared fixedly at the mashed frosting-and-chocolate-cake that hung valiantly to the individual's clothing. The remaining cupcake was still in her left hand, her right raising until she was covering her mouth.

    Nicky skipped happily into the cafeteria, happy that the day was already halfway over. The large room was busy and the hustle and bustle of Chaser students as they got their lunches was almost overwhelming. There were people everywhere and they moved about getting their lunches, talking to friends, or just wandering aimlessly. Most people hung with their friends and chatted loudly, with the occasional loner, which wasn’t unusual for a typical lunch period. The young Chaser in training made her way towards the lunch line enthusiastically humming the tune to one of her favorite songs. The line seemed a bit long, but she was willing to wait, it was always worth the wait for food. As she walked, she noticed another girl being abandoned by the boy next to her, forcing his tray upon her as he went. She felt bad for her and decided that she should probably help, as it was a bit difficult to hold two trays at once, especially if they were loaded down with food. She rushed over, but she was too late, the girl had expertly maneuvered the trays onto a nearby table. Nicky still wanted to make sure that the other Chaser didn’t need any more help before she moved on to get her own lunch.

    Walking up behind her, she was prepared to announce her arrival when the other girl turned around and she instantly felt a soft squish against her gym shirt. Backing up revealed a cupcake in the girl’s hand a quickly looking down, she saw icing smeared across the front of her gym shirt. The purple haired girl immediately apologized, eyes wide and covering her mouth in what seemed to be horror, or maybe mortification, Nicky couldn’t tell. Nicolette raised a hand to her shirt, poking at the icing with a frown before sticking her finger in her mouth. Smiling lightly, she laughed and shook her head.

    “It’s perfectly alright, I’m used to getting food spilled on my clothing. One of my older brothers’ is very clumsy and he tends to trip while holding food. Luckily, I’m still wearing my gym clothes and hey, the icing tastes pretty good. No hard feelings.”


    There was a moment of silence before Nicky pulled a napkin out of her back pocket and wiped as much of the icing off as possible. She’d have to wash it as soon as she got home, but that wouldn’t be a problem, she had become an expert at getting food stains out thanks to Isidore. The poor girl in front of her seemed to embarrassed though and she patted her lightly on the arm in a show of friendliness. Nicolette hoped she wouldn’t be too embarrassed for long, it was honestly okay, accidents happened and it wasn’t like she’d shoved the cupcake at her.
